The transition to pervasive computing will be a disruptive force that will have equally great potential for ill or good. We therefore have issued a grand challenge.
The transition to ubiquitous computing has profound implications for education and may represent as great a paradigm shift as the invention of writing itself. An article discussing this in detail will be published in the May 2002 issue of Learning & Leading with Technology (http://www.iste.org/L&L/). The commentaries that follow in the accompanying discussion strand in Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education address implications for teacher education, K-12 schools, and society.
