Cindy Bowman, English Education Co-Editor
Cindy Bowman is Assistant Professor of English Education at Florida State
University, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Teaching
Writing, Middle School and High School Methods, Teaching Literature, and
Technology for Teachers of English.
A former high school English
teacher, Cindy received her Ph.D. from Kent State University in 1996.
Active in numerous professional organizations, Cindy’s professional home is the
Conference on English Education of the National Council of Teachers of English,
where she serves on the Executive Board and the Commission on the Preparation of
Teachers with Disabilities and the newly formed Commission on
Technology.
Cindy resisted technology until just recently;
like many English teachers, she preferred books, paper, and pen. She
became a convert when she was involved in a project to help veteran classroom
teachers integrate technology into their curriculum. The creativity,
enthusiasm, and interaction spread throughout the district teachers,
students, and parents. Currently she is conducting research on how
technology impacts reading comprehension of at-risk students.
