Cathy Loving, Science Co-Editor

Cathy Loving is an associate professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture at Texas A&M University. She teaches graduate courses in science education and instructional theory. She also teaches in the secondary credential program special modules on ethics in teaching, instructional strategies, and motivation. She is currently an associate director for the NSF-funded Information Technology in Science Center for Teaching and Learning and teaches courses in that project involving the foundations of information technology, with special emphasis on modeling in science, as well as an upcoming team-taught summer course for graduate students to develop protocols for inquiry projects in classrooms involving use of IT.

Cathy has published in the American Educational Research Journal, Science Education, Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Science and Education, the Journal of Science Teacher Education as well as various other journals. She has authored a number of book chapters and is currently working on research related to the relationship between science and culture and the impact of information technology on science learning. She is particularly interested in improved notions of how good science has been done over the centuries and how it is being carried out today. She currently serves on the editorial board of JRST and the review board for Science Education, as well as reviewing for various other journals. She has served on the Executive Board of NARST, and is active in AETS and AERA. She currently serves as chair of the Science Teaching and Learning SIG for AERA.

Cathy had 20 years secondary science teaching experience in five states before pursuing her doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin. She is married to Jerry Loving, professor of English at TAMU. They have two grown children and four grandchildren."
