 !  Teacher Alumni

After preservice science teachers graduate from the MAT or NC TEACH programs at UNC-CH, they continue to use and integrate technology learned in their methods courses in their own classrooms with grade 9-12 students.

Teachers who have successfully completed the MAT and NC TEACH science education programs at UNC-CH are qualified to use and integrate all types of technology into their instruction in the public schools. PowerPoint presentations, hands-on activities, CBLs, and Internet assignments are just a few examples of how these teachers use technology.

You have to download a free Quicktime Player in order to view the videos on this website. Choose your operating system and download.

Hand-on, inquiry learning is the primary method of instuction for the science methods course. This methods is then transferred by the preservice tachers into their own classrooms. The following example is an inquiry lesson plan for filtration and water treatment developed by a former MAT teacher.

Other former preservice teachers have developed PowerPoint presentations (e.g., waves) that convey science content to their students. The use and access to laptop computers during their MAT and NC TEACH programs provided them with the resources to learn and integrate this type of technology.

 !   CBLs in Schools
CBLS are a great way to maximize the learning experience while limiting the mess of more traditional labs.
The following video clip shows how one alumnus used CBLs in her biology course with 10th grade students.

After data collection, data analysis occurs.
The following video clip shows a recent alumnus helping a student complete data analysis on a laptop computer. The students learn how to use Excel and Logger Pro to analyze the data from CBLs.
